06/05/2004 (Agence Europe) - Belgian Socialist Jean-Maurice Dehousse explains in a press release why he voted for censure against the European Commission in the Eurostat affair (see EUROPE of 5 May, p.7). "It is too late or too soon to take a stance on the Eurostat affairs, which, moreover, hides a great deal more than what the motion of censure says" (rejected on Tuesday by the plenary), Mr Dehousse said, adding: "It is farcical to suggest that a parliament at the end of its work censure a Commission which is bringing its own to an end. But, since the president has considered the motion admissible (…), I voted for censure. It is impossible for a left-wing person to express confidence in a Commission which proposed the Bolkestein directive on public services, as this directive places these same services in mortal danger".
