Brussels, 28/04/2004 (Agence Europe) - Moroccan Prime Minister Driss Jettou will be in Brussels late Thursday where he will be received by President Prodi. The news is confirmed in many circles but the theme of the meeting, 48 hours after the 4th session of the EU-Morocco Association Council, has not been specified (yesterday's EUROPE, p.8). It is considered, however, that the Head of the Moroccan government hopes to speed up EU cooperation with his country for which he requests "advanced status". In the context of enlargement, Morocco hopes, during this EU mutation, to convince the European Commission to conceive cooperation action that will lead to Morocco being truly secured to the enlarged Europe through the EuroMed process and the approach to new neighbour countries. According to some sources, Morocco plans to quickly take advantage of the praises that it received from the Fifteen at the Association Council session and to announce the active warming of relations with Madrid. The new Spanish head of government, Mr Zapatero, reserved his first trip outside Europe to a visit to Morocco. This new, warmer attitude will directly contribute to actively relaunchign cooperation between Madrid and Rabat on the fight against illegal migratory flows at a time when negotiations on the "re-entry chapter" that the European Commission hopes to include in the Association Agreement are not making the headway hoped for in Brussels. The theme could be among the subjects tackled on Thursday by Messrs Prodi and Jettou.
