Brussels, 28/04/2004 (Agence Europe) - According to a draft ministerial decision published by the ministry of economy and work labour in Poland, only the Irish and British will be able to work freely in Poland following the country's accession on 1 May. the United Kingdom and Ireland are the only countries of the EU, which during a transition period, have not banned new accession states to their labour markets. The Dutch, Danish and Swedish will benefit from facilities for obtaining work permits in Poland while all the other Member States will be obliged to make requests. The Germans and Austrians, whose governments decided to restrict access to their labour markets the most for the ten new members, will be subject to restrictions in the Polish services markets as well. This draft ministerial decision is based on the reciprocity principle. Most of the Fifteen have imposed 2-5 transition periods on nationals from the Ten before giving them free access to their labour markets out of fear that there would be an influx of cheap labour and abuse of their social welfare systems.
