Public hearing 4 May, Brussels

Brussels, 28/04/2004 (Agence Europe) - The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) will be organising a public hearing on 4 May in Brussels on "The International Convention on Migrants' Rights". Participants include: the Irish presidency; Member States of the EU, the European Parliament, NGOs, International Bureau of the International Organisation for Migration, the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions (CISL), the Red Cross etc. The hearing will be introduced by vice president of the German Red Cross and member of the EESC, Soscha Gräfin zu Eulenberg.

Drawn up by the United Nations, the Convention entered into force on 1 July 2003. NO EU Member State has as yet ratified it. The EESC has therefore prepared an own initiative report with Spanish trade unionist Luis Miguel Pariza Castanos (Info: http: //http://www.esc.eu.int )..
