15/04/2004 (Agence Europe) - For the fifth consecutive year, the Energy Globe Award competition will reward projects and initiatives that promote effective and lasting use of natural resources. Each year, nearly 1,000 projects from dozens of countries take part in the competition. This year, the competition - which is open to private and public participants from the five continents - will reward projects in five categories (land, energy, water, air, environmental education), which should be handed in by 30 June at the latest. They will be assessed mainly depending on their sustainability, their cost-effectiveness, the possibility to duplicate them and the technical development level of the country concerned. They will be presented publicly on 19 October. Winners in each category will be awarded the "Energy Globe", a bronze statue weighing 14 kilos and worth 10,000 euros. It is also a "celebrity" event as, in 2003, the winners received their prize from celebrities like American actor Peter Falk or German singer Nina Hagen.
