Brussels, 15/03/2004 (Agence Europe) - According to the Financial Times on 13-14 March, the USA intends to present a revised and "probably diluted plan" of their Greater Middle East Initiative (launched a few months ago) on their intervention in Iraq, to the G8 Summit next June in Florida. Following the rather critical initial reactions from European and Arab countries, the US government told the FT to try and take into account in its new document the conclusions of the Arab League summit, expected on 29 March in Tunis (the High Representative for CFSP, Javier Solana, will be taking part in it: EUROPE 3 March p 4 and 12 March p 10). The FT explains that the US wants a different name for their initiative, in an attempt to introduce the notion of "partnership", (which France and Germany want to put forward to EU partners: EUROPE 4 March p 5).
