Brussels, 26/01/2004 (Agence Europe) - The associations "Europeans Throughout the World", "Vlamingen in de Wereld" and the "Union francophone des Belges à l'étranger" are organising with the support of the Commission a symposium on the theme "Developing the Concept of Citizenship for Expatriates" on 2 and 3 February at the seat of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) in Brussels. Participants include: Roger Briesch, EESC President; Jean-Luc Dehaene, Vice-Chairman of the European Convention; Enrique Baron Crespo, President of the Socialist Group at the EP and the Europeans Throughout the World association; and, in principle, Antonio Vitorino, Commissioner for Justice and Home Affairs. Participants will mainly discuss questions of voting rights for expatriates and their democratic representation and all further related rights and obligation of expatriates.
