26/01/2004 (Agence Europe) - Francesco Fiori (EPP-ED, Italy), ahead of a debate in the plenary session on the future of the EU' textile industry (see above) expressed 'perplexity' at the recent European Commission Communication on the issue. The Forza Italia MEP criticises the Commission for failing to put forward any immediate measures for the textile industry, which accounts for more than 100,000 companies, 2 million jobs and a turnover of almost EUR 190 billion.
