Mr Corniillet asks whether Parliament is expected to vote on a resolution requesting a constitution before 1st May

Brussels, 16/01/2004 (Agence Europe) - Among the burgeoning initiatives and requests for a relaunch of the IGC,was that of MEP Thierrry Cornillet (UDF), which on Thursday proposed to its EPP-ED group that it put forward, together with the Socialists and Liberal groups, a draft resolution to vote on during the 29 January plenary in Brussels, which "solemnly" requests the governments at the IGC to reach an agreement on a constitutional treaty before 1 May "in view of signing it as soon as possible". The group supported this proposal, stated Mr Cornillet in a press statement (EUROPE yesterday p 4 on the subject of the same request put forward by the Constitution Intergroup and the initiative of Italian MEPs according to which the EP is should adhere to the draft constitution of the European Convention next February, twenty years after the Spinelli draft treaty).
