16/01/2004 (Agence Europe) - On 9 January the Council of the EU adopted by written procedure a common position aiming to strengthen the embargo on arms, munitions and military equipment to Sudan, which had been in force since 1994 "given the ongoing civil war there". The embargo ha been extended to arms-related technical assistance and financial assistance for arms supplies, whilst allowing for exceptions for humanitarian reasons and for de-mining purposes.
