07/01/2004 (Agence Europe) - The European Confederation of Trade Unions (ETUC) will be organising a "European day of action for a more social Europe" of democracy, justice, tolerance and freedom. This will take place on 23- April 2004. In an effort to prevent Europe getting stuck and that social perspectives do not become even more distant, John Monks, Secretary General of the ETUC declared, "The ETUC now wants to see early action to agree a Constitution with a strong social dimension...Governments are refusing to include adequate safeguards for Social Europe in the proposed new Constitution.. .The ETUC supports a new constitution for Europe and deplores the inability of Governments to agree one, on the basis of the result of the Convention".
