07/01/2004 (Agence Europe) - On 6 January, the Irish EU Presidency issued the following declaration on behalf of the EU: "The EU Presidency welcomes the approval of a constitution for Afghanistan by the Loya Jirga. The approval of the constitution, which represents a fundamental step in the peace process established by the Bonn Agreement, provides a foundation for a future of peace and prosperity for the Afghan people. The European Union reconfirms its full commitment to this process".
