11/12/2003 (Agence Europe) - The European Respiratory Society and the European Lung Foundation have published a European White Paper on lung disease. These two organisation are recommending that the EU and its Member States: priorities prevention and early diagnosis of lung diseases, in particular, by facilitating access to spriometry testing (for measuring lung capacity and breathing deficiency); better monitoring of lung diseases (they hope that future activities of the European Centre for Disease Control include non-communicable and communicable lung diseases); more measures for smoking prevention including a price in cigarettes; more resources to research in the next Research Framework Programme.
