Brussels, 11/12/2003 (Agence Europe) - "Let the people decide the future of the EU": During a joint press conference in Brussels on Thursday, Democracy International, IRI (Initiative and Referendum Institute) and Team called for referendums to be held on the Constitution throughout the European Union. Democracy International has not taken position on the content of the draft Treaty, but has stressed the democratic need for referendums to be held. Some 230 organisations support this action. Team, which has the support of 50 organisations in 20 countries, will call upon citizens "to vote against the Constitution and for democracy". IRI is preparing guidelines on the organisation of referendums. (See http://www.european-referendum.org/action and http://www.iri-europe.irg ).
