Brussels, 01/12/2003 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has taken the formal decision to authorise, under the regulation on new food and food ingredients (regulation 258/97/EC, "Novel Food"), the use of salatrim in human food (the acronym used for short and long chains of triacylglyceride molecules). This is a type of reduced calorie fat, which has been developed as a substitute fat in bakery and confectionery products- especially chocolate- for people on a reducing diet.
