10/11/2003 (Agence Europe) - At the initiative of Medbridge, a movement founded by MEP François Zimeray, 150 parliamentarians of 27 countries and of all political trends recently visited Jordan, Israel and the Palestinian Territories. The French Socialist cites in a press release the remarks made by King Abdullah to the parliamentarians: "Peace must not be for tomorrow but for today, and the Arab and Israeli leaders must have the moral courage to make peace". In Israel, Mr Zimeray states, Justice Minister Tomy Lapid called on the parliamentarians to urge the Arab and Palestinian leaders to accept the Jewish State ("Help us to create a small Europe here, make them understand that it is worthwhile living with us in peace") while, in Bethlehem, parliamentary deputy Salah Ta'mari describes the humiliations of occupation. Finally, Mr Zimeray notes an "exceptional declaration by Ariel Sharon" who tells the delegation: "In my view, the fence (raised by Israel) is not a frontier (…). If there were no terrorism, there would be no fence".
