G10 is very confident in economic recovery

Brussels, 10/11/2003 (Agence Europe) - The governors of the central banks of the G10 are highly confident that growth at world level will recover, it was said on Monday by the president of the European Central Bank (ECB), Jean-Claude Trichet. Speaking as the president of the G10, Mr Trichet specified that "we are seeing a significant recovery during the third quarter" and "we are reasonably confident in the fact that this recovery or (…) acceleration in growth will continue for some time yet". The meeting held in Bangkok showed that "we are probably in an environment of regular growth, growth that is speeding up", Mr Trichet concluded. Several central bankers of Asian countries were present at this meeting, mainly those from China, India, the Philippines and Singapore. Mr Trichet described the growth of the third quarter of this year in Asia as being "particularly spectacular" if one considers the negative impact of the respiratory illness that hit most of the countries of he region early this year.
