Greens/EFA campaign for healthy food

Brussels, 10/11/2003 (Agence Europe) - The German Greens, Heide Rühle and Friedrich Wilhelm Graefe zu Baringdorf, will be announcing, on 12 November at the European Parliament, a campaign by the Greens/EFA Group in favour of food that complies with environmental and public health. The campaign, to be presented in the current and future Member States, will mainly draw attention to certain agri-food practices that are harmful for the environment and health, a press release states (mainly mentioning genetic engineering and the excessively lengthy duration of transport for food products). The two MEPs state that this is the first "single issue" campaign that the Greens have launched well before the electoral campaign for European elections to be held in June 2004 and that they are the first European political family to take such an initiative.
