22/10/2003 (Agence Europe) - Benefiting from the opening of the plenary session on Monday in Strasbourg, Dutch Socialist Dorette Corbey, requested the foreign affairs committee at the Parliament submit an opinion on the Council's common position on medicines for human use. She believes that the draft approved by the Council, a opposed to the opinion of Ministers representing accession countries, would lead to a rise in prices of medicines, a particularly damaging for these countries. Ms Corbey proposed that the foreign affairs committee, responsible for enlargement, examined this issue. The rapporteur on the "medicines package", Françoise Grosstête (UMP, France), immediately opposed this proposal. She emphasised the very short deadlines the Parliament had if it wanted the legislative procedure to be finished in time under this legislature.
