Brussels, 29/09/2003 (Agence Europe) - The Foreign Affairs Council sent a firm message to Iran in conclusions adopted on Monday in Brussels. It expressed its concern about the lack of progress made in four areas - human rights, non-proliferation, the fight against terrorism and the peace process in the Middle East. Enhanced dialogue and cooperation and progress in these four areas are "interdependent", he stressed. The Council calls on Iran to implement the recommendations of the resolution on the Iranian nuclear programme adopted on 12 September by the International Atomic Energy Agency. It trusts that Iran will sign, ratify and implement "without delay" the additional IAEA protocol. The Council stance will be reviewed in the light of the next report on implementation of the IAEA resolution, which should be presented end October by IAEA Director General Mr El Baradei. Ministers essentially discussed the nuclear issue and a little about human rights, during the discussion held on Iran over lunch.
