Brussels, 24/09/2003 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday, the European Commission adopted, by written procedure, a proposal of decision calling on the Council to ratify the protocol for accession to Eurocontrol (the European organisation for the safety of air navigation), which was signed on 8 October 2002, to allow the European Community to become a full member of the organisation. The aim is to allow the protocol to be rapidly implemented, which requires ratification by the contracting Eurocontrol parties, including the European Community. The protocol specifies the rules for Community and Member State participation in the organisation. By the end of the year, the Commission will sign a cooperation agreement with Eurocontrol in order to task it with the organisation of specialised work necessary for preparing Community rules in the context of the European single Sky.
