Brussels, 12/09/2003 (Agence Europe) - The EU Special Representative in Macedonia, Alexis Brouhns, submitted a report on the situation in the country to the EU Security Policy Committee (Cops), following the incidents over recent weeks (EUROPE 6 September p 4). Cops has also taken note of the EU's task force, sent last July to Macedonia to assess the need for sending a police mission to the country at the end of the mandate of the Concordia military mission, as requested by Macedonia President Boris Trajkovsky. Despite a deterioration in the situation on the ground, which was judged to be "quite fragile" by Mr Brouhns, Cops has not yet taken a decision about sending a possible police mission but will continue to monitor the situation very closely.
