Brussels, 12/09/2003 (Agence Europe) - Reacting to the Israeli government's decision that Yasser Arafat, the President of the Palestinian territories, should go into exile, the EU High Representative for CFSP, Javier Solana, expressed deep concern on Friday. Diego de Ojeda, spokesperson for External Relations Commissioner Chris Patten, said the Commission did not share the Israeli cabinet's agreement to act against Arafat. He said it would be a terrible mistake that would have terrible consequences for the region. Arafat is the democratically elected President of the Palestinian Authority, he added, explaining that the Commission would be continuing liaison with the PA at all levels.
