On Wednesday just before the opening of the summit, a group of 200 parliamentarians launched an appeal for another possible economic and social model. The declaration adopted during the International Parliamentary Forum underlines that "since the creation of the WTO, the gap between the rich and the poor had increased dramatically and submits the Cancun summit with ten "minimum essential demands among which are democratic monitoring, defence of world farming, the maintaining and strengthening of public services, access to medicines, the fight against patenting of human life and environmental protection.
