60 years of Italian cinema

Brussels, 10/09/2003 (Agence Europe) - In Brussels from 9 October to 11 November 2003 a huge range of Italian taste and cinema know-how will be screened. The Sintesi association is screening sixty or so Italian films from the last sixty years (from Visconti's 1942 film Ossessione to the present day) during the Italian Presidency of the EU and as part of Europalia 2003. The aim is to present Italian cinema of the past and the present, including films that won some of the most prestigious international prizes (from 1946 onwards) like Amarcord, Il Gattapardo, La Dolce Vita, La Notte, etc. and modern films. There will also be a tribute to Lucchino Visconti, with all his films being shown. The festival will be launched on 9 October at the Grand Eldorado at the cinema UGC De Brouckère, with the preview of Puli Avati's film Il cuore altrove, attended by the director, the actors and Italy's Permanent Representative Umberto Vattani. Italian Commissioners Prodi and Monti have been invited, along with Culture Commissioner Viviane Reding. The following screenings will be a the Arenberg Galeries cinema, near the Grande Place.
