01/09/2003 (Agence Europe) - Coldiretti considers in a press release that Italy may increase its exports of "typical cheeses" to the United States tenfold, if the World Trade Organisation accepts the list of 41 protected geographical indications that the EU hopes to be able to use exclusively. The list was approved last week by the Member States in Geneva (see EUROPE of 29 August, p.5). These exports may reach a value of $2.2 billion, the Italian farm organisation states in a press release, while regretting that the United States had requested that an WTO panel be set in place on the European regulation on names of origin.
