British companies BP (oil) and RIO TINTO (mining) are to sell the coal mining concern KPC - PT KALTIM PRIMA COAL to Indonesia's PT BUMI RESOURCES for $500 million in cash, shared equally between BP and RIO TINTO (each of which holds a 50% share in KPC). KPC runs a coal mine in the outskirts of Sangatta in Indonesia that produces around 18 million tonnes of coal a year.
