Brussels, 22/07/2003 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday, the European Commission will launch an enquiry into British Energy's restructuring plan for its nuclear power plants, with a view to ascertaining whether this constitutes state aid. Emergency aid was authorised in November 2002 to prevent the company from collapsing while seeking a viable long-term solution to its problems. The UK government promised to submit its restructuring proposals for British Energy to the Commission, which it has done. The Commission will now examine the plan and publish its decision in September 2004.
