Brussels, 22/07/2003 (Agence Europe) - The European Commissioner for External Relations, Chris Patten, will be taking part in the meeting of ASEM Foreign Ministers in Bali (Indonesia) on 23-24 July. At the meeting he will present the recent European Commission communication called, "A New Partnership with South East Asia", which calls for a revitalisation of the Asian-European Summit (ASEM). In this perspective, particular attention will be afforded to not only strengthening the economic partnership between the parties but also to the "common challenges", such as the war on terrorism and non proliferation. The situation in the Korean peninsula will also be brought up, as well as political developments in Burma, ASEM enlargement and recent developments in Europe and Asia. Mr Patten will attend a certain number of bilateral meetings and "Troika" type meetings in Bali, China, South Korea, Indonesia, Vietnam, Singapore and Thailand.
