Brussels, 07/07/2003 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission is to hold a conference on the future of regional policy in the perspective of enlargement, in Brussels on 8 July, with some 178 regional presidents or their representatives. The conference will be opened by Romano Prodi. Addresses by Commissioners Barnier (regional policy), Diamantopoulou (employment and social affairs), Fischler (agriculture and fisheries), and Vitorino (justice and home affairs) are scheduled. The morning will be given over to the theme "Cohesion policy: solidarity and responsibility", and the afternoon to "Regions in the new Union", with a round table on: the regions in the European Constitution; - the Constitution and territorial cohesion; - the place of the Committee of the Regions.
