Naples, 07/07/2003 (Agence Europe) - Transport Commissioner Loyola de Palacio announced during the informal meeting of Transport Ministers in Naples that the European Commission is likely to present, on 23 July, its proposal for an amendment to the directive on the "Eurovignette", relating to the taxation of heavy goods vehicles for the use of certain infrastructure. The proposal, currently in interservice consultation, will above all allow cross financing (taxes raised by levies on the road system could finance rail construction projects) in exceptional cases, and on condition that the projects financed are along the same route.
