E.ON could take over Forutm

Brussels, 16/06/2003 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has authorised the take-over by German energy company E.ON AG of three regional electricity utilities controlled by the Finnish Fortum Corporation: Fortum Kraftwerk Burghausen (Germany), Edenberry Power (Ireland) and Fortum Distribution Smaland (Sweden). Actively mainly in the German electricity sector, E.ON also has important activities in Sweden and the United Kingdom. The three regional companies it is to take over are active in the production and distribution of electricity, but the operation will not entail major overlaps of activity. For this reason the Commission does not oppose it.
