Luxembourg, 16/06/2003 (Agence Europe) - In the laconic conclusions that it adopted on Cuba, the External Relations Council "reaffirms its grave concern about the serious deterioration of the human rights situation". The Council recalls the measures announced by the EU on 5 June (invitation to Cuban dissidents to demonstrations in Europe, etc.) and "considered the behaviour of the Cuban authorities towards the EU, its Member States and acceding States, unacceptable". The Council, which calls for the immediate release of all political prisoners, states the EU will continue to follow up developments in the situation of the country and mainly that of the Cuban citizens who are engaged in a peaceful political opposition.
