Brussels, 23/05/2003 (Agence Europe) - The Commission should adopt, on Tuesday 27 May, a Communication entitled: Enhancing the social dimension of the Lisbon strategy: rationalisation of the open coordination method in the sector of social protection. The question that is implied by this Communication is to understand how to establish a European framework for retirement, pensions, health, care for the aged and ensuring that work is suitably remunerated. The answer would be to have a coordinated strategy in terms of social protection at the European level, commented the spokesperson for Commissioner Anna Diamantopoulou. Cooperation and coordination in the field of social protection has gradually evolved and presently includes the enforcement of the open methods of coordination in the sectors cited, explains the Commission who's Communication defines the way in which all these elements may be associated within a single structure inside the WTO, by 2006.
