Strasbourg, 16/05/2003 (Agence Europe) - The EP, by adopting a resolution on the next World Health Assembly (in Geneva on 19-28 May) has demonstrated that it believes that Taiwan should be invited to take part as an observer. The EP notes that the Taiwanese authorities requested assistance from the World Health Organisation "at an early stage for fighting against the SARS virus" due to the lack of information from the competent authorities in the People's Republic of China (which had refused to work with the WHO). The EP believes that the experience of Taiwan, which had acted accordingly over important health questions on its territory, "could be beneficial not only at a regional level but also on a world level".
