Brussels, 16/05/2003 (Agence Europe) - The government of the United Kingdom is to announce to the House of Commons on 9 June whether or not it recommends the country's entry into the Euro-Zone, indicated a Downing Street spokesperson on Thursday. The government's announcement will follow a special meeting of the Cabinet on 5 or 6 June, after discussions between Prime Minister Tony Blair and Chancellor of the Exchequer Gordon Brown. "On 26 May, we will be submitting the evaluation (the five economic tests defined by the government: Ed) to each member of the Cabinet to read over the Whitsun holiday weekend", added the spokesperson. The British government has pledged to determine whether the United Kingdom's membership of the Euro would be in the country's interests before the end of the parliamentary session (currently set around 7 June), on the basis of the five "economic tests" defined by Gordon Brown in 1997.
