01/04/2003 (Agence Europe) - In the next few weeks, the European Commission will be presenting a communication on the theme of "immigration, integration and employment" and a report at the European Council of Salonika on 20 June, on the Member States' integration policies. At the Informal JHA Council in Veria (Greece), Ministers of the Interior from the Fifteen have again tackled the theme of integration of immigrants to stress in their entirety, this operation should remain, above all in the area of exchange of experiences and not legislative harmonisation. Germany reiterated its opposition to a harmonisation of rules governing access to the labour market, which has often blocked discussion on the different texts on asylum and immigration and continues to do so. The Presidency stressed its commitment to the Fifteen respecting the calendar of Seville by adopting by June, the framework decision on the status of long term residents. Minister of the Interior, Costas Skandilidis gave assurances that Ministers were, "all convinced of the need to transfer part of these competencies to a European level".
