Move to suspend Balkan sugar export discounts

Brussels, 28/02/2003 (Agence Europe) - Next week the European Commission is expected to approve a proposal from services Commissioner Franz Fischler to suspend certain white sugar export discounts from Western Balkan countries (Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, the Union of Serbia and Montenegro, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia) in order to restrict fraud in these countries. the Commission had already warned Community operators of these cases of fraud in June 2002.
