Formal request for accession in order to open talks in 2004 and join at the same time as Bulgaria and Romania

Brussels, 21/02/2003 (Agence Europe) - Croatian Prime Minister Ivica Racan submitted Croatia's formal request for EU membership to the president of the European Council, Costas Simitis, on Friday in Athens. "With this act, Croatia is formalising its strategic goal of becoming an integral part of this new political entity", the enlarged Union, Mr Racan said.
