Brussels, 21/02/2003 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday the European Commission authorised state aid for the Spanish coal industry for a total of EUR 425,013,213 for the period from 24 July 2002 to 31 December 2002, and EUR 11,286,002 for 2001 and the period from 1 January 2002 to 23 July 2002. The aid is for operations, reducing mining activity and to cover exceptional charges and aims to reduce the social and regional impact of restructuring and reducing coal mining in the EU.
