Belgium believes Mr Trichet remains an "excellent candidate" to take over from current ECB President

Brussels, 19/02/2003 (Agence Europe) - The Belgian Finance Minister, Didier Reynders, stated in Paris on Wednesday that Jean-Clause Trichet was an excellent candidate to succeed Wim Duisenberg at the head of the ECB. "Mr Trichet (…) has all the necessary qualities. It is now up to the French government to say whether Mr Trichet should succeed Mr Duisenberg", he added.
