Brussels, 07/02/2003 (Agence Europe) - The list of candidates of the ten future Member States of the EU to the posts of European Commissioner will be known on 1 March 2004, and a special plenary session of the European Parliament will be convened on 1 May 2004 - date when the Accession Treaty takes effect - in order to take a stance on the appointment of ten new Commissioners, Georges Papandreou, EU Council President, states in a letter to Pat Cox, President of the European Parliament. Thus, between early March and early May 2004, the Parliament will be able to organise hearings with the ten applicant Commissioners, the Greek Foreign Minister states. He acknowledges the fact, however, that the idea of holding a plenary on 1 May, a public holiday, would not please certain left-wing political groups of the Parliament.
