Brussels, 07/02/2003 (Agence Europe) - On 10 February, the European Commission should present its draft legislation aimed at setting up a European unit for the safety of networks and information. This text, which we already know will receive the "active" support of the Greek Presidency of the EU (see Europe of 29 January, p.16), has as goal to create a European rapid reaction force aimed at combating computer piracy
Furthermore, on 11 February, the Commission should present guidelines aimed at helping national telecommunications regulating authorities (NRAs) determine the sector's markets, recently liberalised, that need further regulating. It should, notably recommend that NRAs regulate the broadband Internet access wholesale market to stimulate competition, as well as in certain segments of the mobile phone market.
