29/01/2003 (Agence Europe) - A joint seminar of five political formations organised at European level (Party of European Socialists, European People's Party, Party of European Liberals, Democrats and Reformers, European Federation of Green Parties, Democratic Party of the Peoples of Europe - European Free Alliance) has demonstrated that these parties want to move forward rapidly with the definition of a statute for European political parties in anticipation of the 2004 European elections. This seminar, in which on Tuesday MEPs, representatives of the parties and the Commission took part, enabled a consensus to emerge on different aspects, like: (1) a guarantee regarding the respect of the future European parties for democratic values; (2) the need for transparency in management at European level; (3) the need for adequate funding from a European contribution and financial participation of national parties.
