Brussels, 23/01/2003 (Agence Europe) - The Greek Minister of the Press and the Media, Christos Protpapas presented the EP's Culture Committee with the priorities of the Greek Presidency in the audiovisual sector. The Presidency will try to press ahead with the issue relating to the review of the "Television without frontiers" directive and will organise a conference in Corfu in May on "Audiovisual Media and Advertising: Balance between viability and the social role of the media", the conclusions of which will be presented to the informal "Culture" Council in Thessaloniki on 24 May. Furthermore, it would like to move ahead in the debate on prolonging the Media programme to 2006, including the new action plan the Commission is currently preparing "Growth and Audiovisual: i2I audiovisual" so that a decision be taken at the Council of 5 and 6 May in Brussels.
