Brussels, 23/01/2003 (Agence Europe) - On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the Elysée Treaty, the High Representative for CFSP, Javier Solana, sent a message to France and to Germany in which he welcomed not only their achievements over these past forty years regarding friendship and collaboration between the two countries, but also the fact that they do not deny their European commitment. Mr Solana went on to say that Franco-German reconciliation still remains the most successful and the most fruitful example of the way in which relations of conflict can be turned into a basis for cooperation and a common destiny. He also believes such heightened awareness is a wonderful thing and that it should inspire the protagonists of regional conflicts today. He states that he notices on a daily basis the crucial role played by France and Germany in favour of developing the role of Europe on the international scene.
