Commission Green Paper to boost entrepreneurship in Europe

Brussels, 23/01/2003 (Agence Europe) - Europe needs to produce more entrepreneurs and to get more entrepreneurs to grow their businesses. In the EU, too few people are involved in new entrepreneurial ventures and their businesses do not grow so as much as those in the US. On Wednesday to enhance efforts to foster entrepreneurship in Europe, the European Commission has now published a Green Paper to stimulate debate on the future agenda for entrepreneurship. This Green Paper follows the adoption, last December, of the Communication on Industrial policy in an enlarged Europe (see EUROPE 16/17 December 2002 p 12 and 22 January p 13). The Green Paper stresses that the Entrepreneurial initiative and risk-taking should be encouraged in the first place to boost job creation and growth, wealth and jobs and benefits to society, such as availability of a wide variety of products and services. It can also be a keystone in building social cohesion for economically disadvantaged groups or regions.
