Athens / Brussels, 07/01/2003 (Agence Europe) - Greek Prime Minister Costas Simitis gave his assurance in an interview with the daily To Vima cited by the Greek press agency ANA, that the Greek Presidency will be seeking to reach a common position of the Fifteen on Iraq, in order to prevent war. UN resolutions should guide the EU bloc's policy towards Iraq, the acting president of the European Council said, indicating that he has already held an exchange of views on this subject with France, Germany and the United Kingdom.
Furthermore, the Financial Times/Deutschland points out that the chief UN weapons inspector, Hans Blix, is to report on 16 January, before the EU Political and Security Committee, on the work of his team that has been in Iraq since 27 November 2002.
