22/12/2002 (Agence Europe) - One hundred MEPs from 5 politicians groups (mainly the PES, GUE/NGL and Greens/EFA, but also the ELDR and EDD) and the 15 EU Member States have appealed to the United Nations against a war on Iraq. The MEPs call on the United Nations, and particularly the Security Council, to prevent war; negotiate an overall peace plan for the Middle East; encourage the next stage in world disarmament; strengthen the United Nations resources for preventing and peacefully resolving conflict; and to send a parliamentary delegation to Iraq as soon as possible to morally support the weapons inspectors and highlight our desire for a peaceful resolution to tension in the Middle East.
