03/12/2002 (Agence Europe) - Whereas international donors were gathering in Bonn for the second conference on the future of Afghanistan, Afghan's Deputy Health Minister Ferozzundin Feroz visited the European Commission on 2 December to set out the challenges his country is continuing to face. Praising the efforts made by the EU, foremost world donor, Mr. Feroz essentially raised Afghanistan's needs relating to public health and infrastructures in that field, especially stressing the high rate of women who die in childbirth and child mortality. So far, the priorities for European aid have been, by order of importance, supporting the restoration of the public services sector, re-conversion of poppy farmers and public health.
